Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa (Khalifa Tower), is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is known as the tallest building in the world. With a total height of 829.8 meters and a roof height of 828 meters, the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure in the world since its inauguration in 2009. replacing Taipei 101, which previously held this status.

Construction of the Burj began in 2004, and the exterior facade was completed five years later in 2009. The primary structure is made of reinforced concrete and some of the structural steel for the building came from the Palace of the Republic in East Berlin, the former East German parliament. The building opened in 2010 as part of a new development called Downtown Dubai. It was to be the centerpiece of a large-scale mixed-use development. The decision to build the building was based on the government’s decision to move away from an oil-based economy and give Dubai international recognition. The building is named in honor of former UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Abu Dhabi and the UAE government loaned Dubai money to pay its debts. The building broke numerous height records and was named the tallest building in the world.
